BBC’s Tim Davie: I will get a grip of the situation

Acting director general of the BBC Tim Davie has vowed to "get a grip of the situation".

News of the Day - Since the resignation of George Entwistle in the wake of the Newsnight broadcast on child abuse allegations, acting director general Tim Davie has said that his job is now “to get a grip of the situation and take action".

We’re sure those of you with The Guardian newspaper subscription will be up-to-date with the latest developments, but for those of you who haven’t... The BBC has been in crisis since accusations that Jimmy Savile abused children during the height of his fame. It is thought that Newsnight were looking into claims but shelved their investigation.

Picking up a new look into child abuse claims from a care home in Wales, Newsnight broadcast an episode on 2nd November, accusing of a senior Tory MP – thought to be Lord McAlpine - of being involved, which could well lead to legal action from his end.
