What's so great about red?

Red is apparently the favoured hue of designers who are aiming to make a bold statement in a space.

It's definitely not "a colour for the faint of heart", warns Elle Decoration magazine.

However, "when you get the right red, it just perks everything up", said New York-based designer Matthew Patrick Smyth.

"There's something energising about walking into a red room. It can be a really happy color. Red is exciting, glamorous, and vibrant," he told Elle Decoration magazine.

He said he has a red living room and he truly believes "everything looks good in red".

Designer Madeline Stuart agrees with Smyth's sentiments about rouge shades.

She told Elle Decoration magazine that red "can be a fantastic accent colour" with nearly every other shade.

"It really is amazing that red can convey so many more emotions than other colours do," she added.
