Julia Child's 100th birthday

It's Julia Child's 100th birthday - so cook French food and celebrate!

If you didn't already know - today marks culinary legend Julia Child's 100th birthday! Those of you foodies with a BBC Good Food magazine subscription have no doubt decided to cook up a lovely treat to commemorate the occasion.

Julia's cooking career was recently part of the film Julie & Julia, in which blogger Julie Powell (Amy Adams) sets out to cook all the recipes in Julia Child's (Meryl Streep) recipe book, whilst we also watch how Child learned to cook in 1950s Paris. The film was a big hit.

The chef's career really took off in the 1960s when she published "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and got America talking about cooking for the first time. She won the world over with her complex recipes, delivered in a simple way.

Famous recipes of hers include her Poulet au Porto, French Onion Soup, Beef Brisket, Beef Bourguignon and Split Pea Soup. All very declicious!

Despite having died just over 8 years ago, the chef's recipes are still very much a part of people's day-to-day cooking routines. So if you want to commemorate her birthday and don't have her recipe book, open up your BBC Good Food magazine and cook a delicious French dish that she'd be proud of!
