Rebel Wilson’s near-death experience got her into acting

Rebel Wilson tells Glamour how a hallucination when she was ill made her choose to go into acting.

Rebel Wilson can do no wrong at the moment. She caught our eye in Bridesmaids as Matt Lucas’ dim-witted sister, then in Pitch Perfect as Fast Amy. No wonder Glamour wanted her as their cover star this month!

Speaking to the magazine, Rebel reveals that the reason she went into acting is because she almost died!

“I was a youth ambassador for Australia and got to travel to rural Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique, but while I was there I contracted malaria,” she tells them. “They put me in intensive care, gave me a huge concoction of drugs and I started hallucinating that I was an actress at the Academy Awards and won. I got up and made an acceptance rap and the crowds loved it. It was so vivid and real, when I recovered I knew I had to get back to Australia and start acting training.”

What you may not know about the star is that she is a fully qualified lawyer. “People are always surprised that that girl who looks so stupid is a qualified lawyer,” she jokes. “I still don’t have a lawyer here in America yet, so I read all my contracts and negotiate my own deals.”
