Mood swings 'could be caused by hormones'

Anyone with a She magazine subscription can find out what their mood swings might be caused by.

Rather than panicking about the thought you might have depression, She magazine subscription holders might want to see if their mood swings are being caused by hormones.

She magazine suggests that premenstrual syndrome (PMS) can actually get worse in women as they get older.

According to the NHS, women in their late 20s through to their early 40s are the most likely to be affected by PMS.

While many people suffer from it, few know the causes, so She magazine has tried to give women an insight into the annoying condition.

Dr Marion Gluck told She magazine all hormones in the body need to be balanced to provide "good emotional health".

This tends not to happen at different times of your cycle though and it is perfectly normal to feel moody, she said.

Pregnancy can also cause a hormonal imbalance, which again is perfectly normal.

The only time you should worry if when you hit the menopause. Then, Dr Gluck tells She magazine readers, the balance could get "out of whack", which might lead to fatigue, insomnia, acne or aggressive behaviour.

At this point, get help, she advised.
