With the maxi dress set to be one of the major trends for summer, Company magazine has suggested that it is not only for taller women.
The publication explained that even shorter women can pull off the look that has been seen on everyone from Anna Friel to Nicole Richie in recent weeks.
Recent figures from ASOS.com show that the online retailer's profits have benefited from a 25 per cent increase of late and a large part of this has been attributed to the maxi dress.
Company magazine fashion director Oonagh Brennan revealed that the perception that they can only work with taller women is inaccurate.
"I just used one in a shoot for Company for our real reader's section for May with a reader who is 5' 2" because I wanted to show you can wear them, because I'm really short too but I love maxi dresses," she said.
Ms Brennan noted that taller ladies often suit more flared styles, while shorter females are better served by "a tube jersey" look.
