Lily Allen bowed out of the music industry a few years ago, stating that she wanted to spend more time with her family, however, speaking to Glamour in the latest issue, she reveals that she was itching to get back – and not JUST for the music.
“I wasn’t good at staying at home all day, it didn’t suit me. I’m creative, it’s just who I am… I missed the positive feedback about my music from my fans,” she says. “I missed the rush of performing. I missed the free clothes and handbags and the good tables in posh restaurants. I did!”
Allen is married to Sam Cooper, with whom she has two daughters. The idea of coming back to music was daunting and she worried it would affect her relationship. 'I was really worried about working and the pressure it was going to put us under, and it’s actually made him more protective and more loving and more caring. He’s there for me,” she tells Glamour. “It was a tough decision to make, a scary adjustment, and for the children. But my relationship with my husband is as strong as it’s ever been. It’s lovely to come home to.”
Many have welcomed her back with open arms, but some haven’t been so positive about her (somewhat controversial) music and performances. “I do feel betrayed by my sex… People have got their own agendas these days. It’s obvious when it’s about ego and them wanting to sound clever. It’s sad. Exhausting,” she says. “Your own sex, in the name of feminism, hitting you back down. But I’m not gonna censor myself. I’m not gonna be beige.”
