Lea Michele tells Teen Vogue Cory’s love gives her strength

Lea Michele talks to Teen Vogue about her new album, Cory Monteith's support and how his love has made her so strong.

We can’t imagine what Lea Michele has been through since her boyfriend Cory Monteith passed away last summer. However, the way she has dealt with her loss has been inspiring – and she’s even used the experience in a positive way to motivate her even more.

Those of you with a Teen Vogue magazine subscription will soon receive the latest issue, which features Lea on the cover. The Glee actress talks about the reasons behind wanting to release an album.

"During Glee, I felt like I was scratching that itch of being an artist,” she tells the magazine. "I was at a great place in my life and I was so unbelievably happy - my relationship with Cory made me feel like I could reach for the stars and more. So I was like, 'I'm going to challenge myself and do this record now'."

She recalls how supportive Cory was of her work and says that he heard each of her songs. "He would be like, 'You're going to be a popstar! What are we going to do? Are we going to, like, go on the road?” she remembers. “He would say, 'This is going to be big!' And I'd be like, 'I don't know'. He heard every song and gave me notes on everything. He loved 'Battlefield'. I'm getting chills thinking about it. I would say 'Burn with You' was his favourite. He came into the studio that day."

Michele is thankful for the time that she had with Monteith and believes he’s the reason she has stayed so strong over the past year. "I somehow feel the insane love Cory and I had for each other morphed into this strength that I have right now,” she says. "There's just something about knowing he's watching everything I'm doing and feeling like I have to do everything now not just for me but for him. I also have a safety net below me. If I fall or if it's too much, my friends and family will be there to catch me."
