Kelly Osbourne talks to Cosmo about her body image and addictions

Kelly Osbourne chats to Cosmopolitan magazine about her past addictions and body image.

Kelly Osbourne has transformed herself over recent years from a teenage rock chick who battled with her weight, to a quirky vintage-wearing fashion commentator who seems much more comfortable in her own skin.

The former reality TV star is on the cover of Cosmopolitan’s September issue. She discusses her own image with the magazine, admitting that she’s found the criticism tough to take at times.

“I can’t lie; it’s been hard having people say, ‘You’re fat’, and, ‘You’re a beached whale’,” she says. “But I’ve been judged since I popped out, and I’ve never known anything else. What’s been great is overcoming that and understanding that these people are just idiots who hurt your feelings because they want a reaction. I’m proud of proving them wrong.”

Both she, her brother and dad Ozzy have all battled addictions over the years, but she’s confident that she’s now come out the other side. “I’ve been to rehab seven times and to two mental institutions,” she admits. “My mum even had me put in a padded cell once to scare me, but like a brat I just sat it out until she said, ‘Well, that’s not going to work’. But what I’ve learned is that no amount of therapy or medication is going to work unless you want it to. Until you want to be a good person, you will never be one.”

So what made her decide to finally make the effort to get better? “What changed for me was looking around and seeing that nobody liked me or wanted to work with me.”
