Grazia discovers changing attitude to female careers

Grazia has discovered that the majority of women would rather not give up work after having kids.

This week's Grazia magazine shows a changing attitude towards careers among women in the UK.

The Women and Work survey found that females are less inclined to stop work when they have a baby, with just 11 per cent wanting to cease employment completely.

In fact, the majority of respondents would like to keep working at least in some capacity even if they could afford to quit and look after their brood.

This is because having a job is seen as a way to boost confidence and sociability, rather than just a means of swelling the family coffers.

The poll also found that around 40 per cent of women believe that preference should be given to the career of the partner that brings in the most cash, regardless of whether they are male or female.

Grazia associate editor Victoria Harper explained that ladies are progressing in their careers faster than ever and that there now has to be more flexibility between gender roles in a relationship.

"If a couple are having a baby and it is the woman who is the highest earner it might make more sense for the man to pick up the slack and help out with the child-rearing," she said.

Meanwhile, Grazia recently highlighted the results of a poll which show that women believe 31 is the optimum age for beauty.
