Gisele talks to Vogue about the importance of looking after yourself

Gisele opens up to Vogue about her life as a wife and mother and why it's important to look after number one.

If you have a Vogue magazine subscription then no doubt the December 2011 issue has popped through your letter box. Unlike many of the festively themed December issues, the cover of this month’s Vogue is an eye-popping array of colours worn by Brazilian beauty Gisele.

The model poses for a shoot – photographed by Mr Mario Testino – featuring electrifying colour blocking that you don’t often see at this time of year.

Gisele Bündchen has been one of the world’s most famous supermodels for the last 15 years, but more recently her priorities have shifted. Christa D’Souza caught up with the supermodel for a chat whilst she was practising Kung-fu in her new hometown, Boston.

Since meeting husband Tom Brady and having her first child Benjamin, she is a wife and mother before anything else. Not that she ever really subscribed to the crazy Hollywood lifestyle. “Actually, I’ve never really been the kind of person who clubbed and stuff,” she says. “I’m a cancer, see. I’m home-loving. I really enjoy feeling safe, in my own environment, surrounded by the people I love...”

Kung-fu is just one of the many ways Gisele looks after her body. After all, she believes that you have to take care of yourself to be the best you can.

“People think if you look after yourself you’re being selfish, you know. But what Tom taught me – and he is a living example of this – is that in order to be your best, you have to honour your own needs first, I will be the best wife, the best mom, the best sister, the best friend. I have to come first, because then everyone benefits.” she says.

Whatever her priorities now are, Gisele still looks amazing and we may just sign up to Kung-fu if we can end up looking as good as her!

Of course, the December issue of your Vogue magazine subscription is filled with enough interesting articles and gorgeous clothes to drool over, including an interview with young actress Chloe Moretz, four people worth celebrating – Sarah Burton, James Corden, Jessica Ennis and Jennifer Egan and you’ll also get a free Secret Address Book with all the hottest locations for bakeries, bars and boutiques.
