Cheryl Cole on turning 30, X Factor and Girls Aloud split

Cheryl Cole chats to InStyle about turning the big 3-0, her X Factor ordeal and the end of Girls Aloud.

If you have an InStyle magazine subscription, you’ll have just received the July issue of the magazine, featuring the ever-gorgeous Cheryl Cole on the front cover.

The singer is about to hit 30 and is clearly reflecting on things, but unlike many, she’s not worried about reaching a new decade. “When I look at the 21-year-old me, I do not want to be that person. I was young and naive. I’m a hell of a lot wiser, a hell of a lot stronger, I’m just happier with me now. It’s weird but I’m not scared of it.”

Of course, one thing she has looked back on is her time on the X Factor. She admits that her last series was tough on her.

“The last X Factor series I did was too hard for me,” she says. “I wasn’t right in my mind enough to give it my everything and be focused. And I wasn’t strong enough mentally.”

But the reason we even have any idea who Cheryl is is Girls Aloud, the band she formed after appearing in reality TV show Popstars: The Rivals.

The band have just finished a huge arena tour to celebrate 10 years as a band but she confesses that they are well and truly over for good now. “We’ve definitely split. I know Nadine always said that she never thought we should say out loud the words ‘We’ve split’, but at the same time we don’t want to mislead the fans.”
