Spooks set to finish after almost 10 years on the BBC

After 10 series, Spooks will air for the last time this autumn.

When Radio Times magazine favourite, Spooks, started in 2002, it was a huge hit with both critics and viewers alike. It gave us a little insight into the world of spies working for MI5.

It was slick, glamorous and they certainly weren’t afraid to kill off main characters without any warning – remember Lisa Faulkner’s rather gruesome demise in the first series? The BBC complaints department certainly do.

The series has had several “faces” over its 9 year run, including Matthew MacFadyen as Tom Quinn (2002-2004), Rupert Penry-Jones as Adam Carter (2004-2008) and Richard Armitage as Lucas North (2007-2010).

But it’s not just eye candy for women; there are some pretty strong female characters in there too. Hermione Norris played super spy Ros Myers from 2006-2009 and Keeley Hawes was Zoe Reynolds from 2002-2004.

However, it now seems that the series will be no more after series 10 airs this autumn. The series is set to focus on MI5’s patriarch Harry Pearce’ (played by Peter Firth) relationship with Ruth Evershed (played by Nicola Walker) who have been in the show since it first started.

No doubt Radio Times readers will miss the show when it is gone, but will still tune in to find out how the series will end. Ben Stephenson, controller at BBC Drama Commissioning said: “I hope fans will tune in this September to see what promises to be a fittingly high octane thrilling finale.”
