After attacks in Enfield, the Sony/PIAS distribution centre has been completely destroyed; Rock Sound magazine subscribers may be disappointed to hear. People in the area reported that large amounts of smoke were still coming from the building over 24 hours after the building set alight.
The effects of the fire are devastating, not only because the building is now a ruin but the contents of the distribution centre – which has been estimated at around 1.5million CDs - have now been completely destroyed.
Artists such as Young Guns, Enter Shikari and Frank Turner have all been impacted by the fire. Charlie Simpson was due to be releasing his album “Young Pilgrim” next week, but as copies of the album were ruined in the fire, the release date has had to be pushed back.
Simpson released the below statement after news of the fire broke:
"I'm very upset and frustrated to hear that the PIAS distribution warehouse was burnt down last night. PIAS are a champion for independent artists and music, I'm proud to be part of them. We will support them in any way possible through this difficult time. We will issue a full statement with further details regarding PIAS and release date of my album 'Young Pilgrim' as soon as possible. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people that have had their families, homes and businesses affected by this terrible situation."
But those of you hardcore music fans with Rock Sound magazine subscriptions will be happy to know that Sony has announced that 1.5m replacement CDs are being remade in the UK and Austria, to ensure that as little disruption follows as possible.
