Downton Abbey third series confirmed after second series finishes this weekend

Downton Abbey ends this weekend... but it's just been confirmed for a third series!

Every week, viewers of Downton Abbey are left on tenterhooks when a snippet of the next week’s episode is shown. Though this week’s snippet was particularly ominous – it looks like the Spanish Flu gets hold of our beloved Crawley’s and we’ll have to wait until Sunday night to find out if they all make it through.

However, on the bright side our Radio Times magazine subscribers will be pleased to hear that it has been announced today that a third series of Downton Abbey has been confirmed for next year. The third series will take place over an 18 month period in 1920-1921.

Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes said: "I am extremely grateful to ITV for this. I have grown very fond of my Downton family and I certainly do not want to say goodbye to them quite yet."

Of course, if you have a Radio Times subscription you’ll usually be the first to know any news on Downton Abbey, including the latest storylines and any backstage gossip.
