Coldplay are still waiting to deliver their 'masterpiece'

Coldplay fans with an NME magazine subscription will be able to read how the band are waiting for their "masterpiece" offering.

Music fans with an NME magazine subscription will be able to read how Coldplay are still waiting to deliver their "masterpiece" to fans.

The group's frontman Chris Martin told NME magazine they are struggling to write a follow-up album to their 2008 hit Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends.

He said the band are constantly trying to better their previous efforts and he claimed some of their new songs, including Princess Of China and Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, could do this.

"We still don't think we've delivered our masterpiece, so we're still trying to do it," the singer told NME magazine. "As long as we feel like that and we're hungry… that's all that matters."

The group have been working hard with previous collaborator Brian Eno and Marcus Dravs on their new offering.

Martin said they are trying to cut down the length of the album at the moment.

"The worst mistake we could make, when we're the most Marmite-y of bands, would be to make a super-long thing," he told NME magazine.

Coldplay are set to perform at a number of festivals around Europe this summer, including the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands and the Open'er Festival in Poland.
