Alt-J, Emeli Sande and Noel Gallagher win Ivor Novello awards

The music world gathered for the Ivor Novello awards, which saw wins by Noel Gallagher, Alt-J and Emeli Sande.

There are awards that musicians are happy to win and then there are awards that musicians are ecstatic to win and we’re pretty sure that the Ivor Novello awards fall into the latter category.

It was an especially good night for songstress Emeli Sande. Her hit song Next To Me was named best song musically and lyrically, and also won the prize for most performed work.

Alt-J aren’t doing too badly either. After winning the Mercury Prize last year, they scooped the award for best album.

Noel Gallagher was presented the award for outstanding song collection by The Kinks' Ray Davies. He said: "I'd like to thank anyone who's ever played on any of my songs."

Clutching his award backstage, the former Oasis star said: "I've got three kids, and if they ever show any interest in songwriting, I can pop that down on the table in front of them and say 'give it your best shot'."
