YouTube really HAS reinvented the entertainment industry

Wired looks at how YouTube has changed the world of entertainment...

If you want to watch a clip of your favourite film or TV show, a music video or just a viral video that is meant to be HILARIOUS, do you even bother googling or do you just head straight over to YouTube? Yeah, thought so...

If you have a Wired magazine subscription you’ll have just received the February issue which features some of the biggest YouTube sensations at the moment in a feature that shows just how much the website has shaped the entertainment world recently.

The likes of Alex Day, Lex Croucher and Carrie Fletcher have all shown off their musical talents and are now bonafide musicians, Tanya Burr’s how-to tutorials have thrust her into the limelight as a style guru and perhaps the biggest YouTube star of all, Jamal Edwards, who started his own music channel, “discovered” Tinchy Stryder, Wretch-32 and Ed Sheeran and has now become one of the big players in the music industry.

Edwards started by filming friends’ musical sessions then uploading the videos. “I just wanted to broadcast it,” he says. “I set it up because my friends weren’t getting mainstream success, and YouTube was an easy platform to chare videos with them.”

And he never looked back... Read the full feature in the February issue of WIRED. You can ensure you never miss an issue when you subscribe and save on a Wired magazine subscription today.
