Sales of 5MP-camera smartphones 'set to rise in 2011'

Mobile magazine subscription holders can read all about the smartphone market.

If you've got a Mobile magazine subscription, you can read the predictions for the smartphone market this year.

According to research from Strategic Analysts, reported by the publication, models of the phones which have a five-megapixel camera or bigger are expected to double this year.

Due to fast growth at the high-end of the smartphone market, sales could rise by around 1.1 billion handsets in 2011, reports Mobile magazine.

"The growing quality of high-tier cameraphones is making them an increasing threat to the lower end of the point-and-shoot digital camera market," explained director of wireless practice at Strategic Analysts Neil Mawston.

According to data from the analysts, reported by Mobile magazine, the digital still market could well reach 130 million units this year.

Smartphone news website Brighthand suggests the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 was the most popular model in February this year.

Second place went to the Nokia N900 - previously placed in third position in the website's list.
