How to develop a user experience strategy

If you're looking to improve your customers' user experience on your site, you'll benefit from having a .net magazine subscription.

If you've got a .net magazine subscription, you'll be able to find out how to improve the user experience on your website.

Peter Merholz, founding partner and president of Adaptive Path, told .net magazine you need to decide how to "articulate the characteristics of the desired experience" first.

"By being able to distil what you're trying to do into a set of five to seven principles, you provide focus for the design and development team. It helps the decision-making and provides a coherence to an entire experience," he added.

Merholz told .net magazine one key thing to do is prototype, in order to boost your understanding of the desired user experience.

He explained websites need to have some kind of wireframe - such as Ajax, Flash or RIAs - to be effective, but these have to be monitored regularly so you "understand the flow, the feedback and transitions".

Adaptive Path offers its customers a range of different services, from experience strategy and design consulting to in-house training.
