Australia gather to watch the Solar Eclipse in Queensland

Thousands watch the total solar eclipse in Queensland.

Thousands of tourists headed over to Northern Australia this morning to watch a rare total solar eclipse, as those of you with a Sky at Night magazine subscription will know.

The eclipse plunged Queensland into darkness for just over two minutes and despite fears that the cloudy sky may obscure the view, onlookers were left happy and cheered as the event finally took place.

It wasn’t just humans who were amazed by the eclipse though, as temperatures dropped and they were plunged into darkness it was clear that animals were a little confused by what was happening.

The next total solar eclipse won’t happen until March 2015, just off the Faroe islands.
