Westlife announce split after 14 years together

Westlife announced their plans to split after their tour is over next year.

Yesterday on OK! magazine’s website we discovered that after the release of their Greatest Hits album in November and next year’s world tour, Irish boyband Westlife will be splitting up for good.

The band, who have been together for 14 years, have managed to notch up an impressive 14 number one hits. Their first seven singles hit the top spot consecutively, though you may remember Christmas 2000 when Bob the Builder’s Can We Fix It? got to number one, they entered the charts at number two for the first time.

The band made a statement yesterday, saying: “We today announce our plan to go our separate ways after a greatest hits collection this Christmas and a farewell tour next year. The decision is entirely amicable and after spending all of our adult life together so far, we want to have a well-earned break and look at new ventures.

"We see the greatest hits collection and the farewell tour as the perfect way to celebrate our incredible career along with our fans. We are really looking forward to getting out on the tour and seeing our fans one last time."

They added: "We never imagined when we started out in 1998 that 14 years later we would still be recording, touring and having hits together. It has been a dream come true for all of us."

Fans have been voicing their devastation over the band’s decision on both Facebook and Twitter and we have to admit that one of the iSUBSCRiBE.co.uk team may have even shed a few tears over the sad news... Let’s just say that the office playlist consisted of Flying Without Wings, Uptown Girl and When You’re Looking Like That this morning.
