Heat magazine has picked up on Jesse James' public apology for cheating on his actress wife with tattoo model Michelle McGee.
Oscar winner Sandra Bullock left him and took their adopted son Louis with her after details of his infidelity emerged.
He explained how letting the two leave his life was one of the hardest decisions he has ever had to face, but that it would be selfish not to let "the love of my life" go.
"Right now it is time for me to beat this addiction that has taken two of the things I love the most in life. I have always taken great pride in proving people wrong," James said in a statement.
The West Coast Customs chief executive officer added that he has begun a "lifelong commitment" to exorcising his demons and asked that no one judges Bullock for his indiscretions as she is an innocent victim.
He added that the Blind Side star had been an amazing wife, friend and mother over the course of their six-year relationship.
Bullock has also appeared in movies such as Speed, Murder By Numbers and Miss Congeniality.
