Slipknot bassist Paul Gray dies

NME magazine has paid tribute to 38-year-old Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, who died yesterday.

Slipknot fans are today mourning the death of bassist Paul Gray, who was found dead yesterday (May 24th) in a hotel room.

NME reported that celebrity website TMZ.com broke the news of the 38-year-old's death, the cause of which has yet to be established.

The online resource said that police are not treating the death as suspicious as there was no evidence of foul play at the scene in Des Moines, Iowa.

An autopsy is due to be carried out today and more is expected to be known once the results are released.

Gray was one of the founding members of Slipknot - a band renowned for wearing grotesque masks during their performances.

According to NME, the band, despite not having released a statement, paid tribute to their bassist by changing the front page of their website Slipknot1.com to a picture of the tragic star.

His death follows that of metal legend Ronnie James Dio, frontman of Black Sabbath, who died earlier this month of stomach cancer.
