Sam Riley will play the Dead Man in Deptford

Movie buffs with an Empire magazine subscription can read all about Sam Riley bagging the lead role in new flick A Dead Man in Deptford, which tells of a real life tale in a slightly out-of-the-ordinary biopic style.

Movie aficionados with an Empire magazine subscription are probably well up there with all the latest film gossip.

Now, in Empire magazine you can read all about the latest real-life icon-inspired flick, A Dead Man in Deptford, which is apparently set to star Sam Riley.

It won't be the first time the Leeds-born actor's starred in a biopic either. The 30-year-old played Ian Curtis in the 2007 movie Control, which told the story of the Joy Division frontman.

Riley, if he does appear in the film, will take the lead role playing Christopher "Kit" Marlowe.

Very little is known about the real life of Marlowe, who penned such classic plays as The Tragical History of Dr Faustus and The Massacre at Paris, but there have been plenty of rumours spread about what he got up to when he wasn't busy writing – which is what has inspired the new film.

Riley will be starring alongside actors including James Purefoy, Ray Winstone, Adam Sinclair and Ed Speleers if he does take the role.
