Race on for best magazine cover title

Q magazine will be hoping to retain its Maggie for Best Overall Cover when voting opens again in May.

Category: Entertainment

Title: Q magazine

The race is on to win a prestigious competition in the magazine world, with Q hoping to retain its 2009 title.

Last year saw the music publication scoop the award for Best Overall Cover in The Maggies contest for the UK's magazines.

The winning entry featured singer Lily Allen, who was pictured topless with two panthers and was accompanied by the headline "Sexy beast Lilly Allen and her wicked, wicked ways".

Coming at a time when the songstress' actions were being heavily documented, it represented a smart move by Q, which does not regularly feature the English star.

The decision proved profitable by providing one of the magazine's best-selling issues of the year, as well as the coveted Maggie.

According to the award panel, the "stunning cover image" and "strong cover lines with clear typography" was enough to make it the best cover of the year for 2009.

With cover voting opening for the 2010 award in May, Q magazine subscription holders could see their favourite publication in with a chance of winning the title for the second consecutive year.

Lily Allen is the daughter of actor and musician Keith Allen and her hits include Smile and Alfie.
