Empire magazine has revealed that there is speculation that Cruel Intentions actor Ryan Phillippe could be in line to play Captain America in the proposed new flick.
The 35-year-old, who also appeared in Flags Of Our Fathers and I Know What You Did Last Summer, could be set to play one of Marvel's most patriotic superheroes.
However, Phillippe is by no means a certainty for the role and is just one of a number of stars who have been linked with the latest comic book movie.
According to Hitfix, others include Scott Porter, Chris Evans and Garrett Hedlund so film fans will have to wait a little longer to find out who the protagonist will be.
The female lead is also subject to speculation, with Keira Knightley, Emily Blunt and Alice Eve's names all being linked to the movie, according to Deadline New York.
Other films to come from comic books in recent years include the Spiderman and X-Men franchises.
