Newcomer lands lead role in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Newcomer actress Rooney Mara has beaten off some top Hollywood names to land the lead role in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Anyone with a Company magazine subscription may be interested to find out that newcomer Rooney Mara has beat off some stiff competition from big name Hollywood stars to bag the lead role in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Ellen Page, Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart and Natalie Portman were all in the running for the role of Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming film adaption of Stieg Larrson's bestselling novel, reports Company magazine.

Columbia Pictures announced the 24-year-old will be playing the role of the computer hacker in the film, which is the dramatisation of the first book of Larrson's trilogy.

Rooney will be starring alongside Daniel Craig, who will play the part of disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist.

Shooting for the film is due to begin in Sweden next month and it will be released in December 2011.

The up and coming Hollywood star played the character Nancy Holbrook in this year's A Nightmare on Elm Street film.
