Mojo magazine subscription holders will this month be able to read an interview with renowned musician Peter Gabriel.

The star is promoting Scratch My Back - a compilation of covers from the likes of David Bowie, Radiohead and Regina Spektor.

What makes it unique, apart from the fact that it is his first album in eight years, is that Gabriel's dulcet tones are backed up by an orchestral rearrangement of the songs.

In the interview, he explained that it has taken around two decades to find out who he was and that creating "genuinely happy music is one of the hardest things" to achieve as an artist.

"Misery is a more natural human condition," the singer added.

The former Genesis frontman also spoke of his musical roots and how his flamboyancy often enlivened the genre.

He also revealed how hard it was being in the band before he left in 1975, sometimes working up to 100 hours per week.

Genesis' hits include Mama, Turn It On Again and Invisible Touch.
