Title: Empire

Film buffs may share Empire magazine's excitement about two forthcoming releases that are hoping to test the limits of the silver screen.

Resident Evil: Afterlife and The Woman In Black are to be presented at what the publication describes as "the bleeding end of cutting edge".

While the Resident Evil franchise may not have bowled over the movie community, it has a loyal band of followers that have vindicated four live action movies, not to mention animated flicks and numerous video games.

However, the latest instalment from Paul WS Anderson will be filmed in proper 3D and released in IMAX format, meaning that fans of the star of the series Milla Jovovich will see her on a beautifully huge scale - no bad thing according to Empire.

Meanwhile, Woman In Black, which is based on a novel by Susan Hill, will also be shot in 3D, giving James Watkins an extra dimension with which to terrify audiences.

The Resident Evil franchise centres around protagonist Alice's battle to save the world from a deadly virus created by the evil Umbrella Corporation, which turns humans into zombies.
