Empire magazine subscription holders have cast their votes for the publication's award ceremony, creating a shortlist of nominees ahead of the March 28th event.
The awards are based solely on the opinions of the UK's film fans, with readers of the magazine being asked for their favourite actors, actresses, directors and movies from the past year.
Two of the biggest contenders at this year's ceremony are likely to be Avatar and Inglourious Basterds.
Quentin Tarantino is up for the Best Film gong for his World War II flick, while Melanie Laurent is also in line for Best Actress for her role in the same movie.
Meanwhile, James Cameron will be hoping to snatch the illustrious title away from Tarantino for his 3-D sci-fi adventure.
District 9 and The Hurt Locker are other possibilities for the Best Film award, while Neil Blomkamp will be up against Cameron, Tarantino, JJ Abrams and Kathryn Bigelow in the Best Director category.
Blomkamp's District 9 sci-fi was set in an alien refugee camp in South Africa and sees things go astray in an attempt to re-locate the community to another location.
