Coco Sumner talks to Esquire magazine about inspiration

Almost anything can inspire a song but they almost always start with a melody, up-and-coming singer-songwriter Coco Sumner has told Esquire magazine.

The daughter of The Police frontman Sting and Trudie Styler, she is rapidly becoming a celebrity in her own right.

She told the magazine that almost anything can be inspiring if it makes her feel something and she is constantly making notes that often become lyrics.

"I start writing things down on scraps of paper and put them in my pocket, like a sentence that I really like," she asserted.

Sumner said that key inspirations in her life were Ian Dury, who she said she used to dress up as when she was a little child, and film scores by Clint Mansell, who worked on films including Pi, Requiem for a Dream, the Fountain and the Wrestler.

Debut album The Constant is due later this year and this year has already seen the release of singles including Caesar, Self Machine and Quicker.
