Readers switch from News of the World to Mail on Sunday

Now that the News of the World is gone, readers are finding their Sunday morning news elsewhere.

Yesterday saw the first Sunday in 168 years that the News of the World has not been on sale and it seems to have affected the market quite substantially.

News of the World was undoubtedly the most popular Sunday newspaper until its demise last week after the phone hacking scandals which News International felt the newspaper could not recover from. It took 27.61% of the market share, ahead of The Mail on Sunday which had 19.95% and the Sunday Mirror which had 11.26%.

Now that the newspaper is no longer being sold, The Daily Mail’s share of the market has increased to 27.56%, followed by the Sunday Mirror on 15.55% and The Sunday Times on 15.55%.

According to unofficial figures, four other newspapers had a combined sales increase of 2.35 million extra copies – which means the majority of the News of the World’s 2.67 million readers have already replaced the newspaper.

Of course, those of you with a Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday newspaper subscription will now be pleased to hear that you receive the best-selling Sunday newspaper as part of your subscription.

On the cover of today’s Daily Mail you can find the David Beckham’s picture of daughter Harper which he posted on his Facebook, news on the chief of Scotland Yard’s resignation because of the hacking scandal and news of job cuts on the front line as soldiers are replaced by part-time reservists to save money.

To ensure you receive the latest news every day, subscribe and save on a Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday newspaper subscription today.
