Michelle Obama has democratised fashion, says Newsweek magazine

Newsweek magazine subscription holders can read about Michelle Obama's impact on fashion.

If you've got a Newsweek magazine subscription, you'll be able to read about the impact the first lady has had on the world of fashion.

According to Newsweek magazine, Michelle Obama has democratised fashion, leading to the rise of Bonnie Morrison - the "celebrated social schmoozer".

"In the last few years, the culture has shifted, the industry has changed, and now Morrison, a middle-class black woman from San Francisco, breathes the rarefied air once reserved for the daughters of power brokers," Newsweek magazine reports.

The PR queen Morrison, called "fashion's unlikeliest 'it' girl", by Newsweek magazine, has made her mark on New York Fashion Week - behind the scenes, organising one of the biggest runway shows in the world.

Newsweek magazine suggests the fact we "now live in the era" of the first lady of the US has inspired the fashion world into being "enthralled by this sophisticated black woman who dresses with flair".

Recently, Obama picked up The Independent accolade at the Vogue Style Awards.
