Practical Photography, as the title says, gives practical knowledge and presents new techniques. I can say that the magazine is good for amateurs and intermediate photographers, but professional photographers might prefer other magazines. The magazine provides quite good feedback to readers via comments and advice. Its definetly worthwhile reading.
Practical Photography is the best general photography magazine that I know of. I read each and every issue several times and always find something new. In addition to standard things you find in other magazines - articles, gear reviews, showcases - PP provides yearly Digital SLR Skills Courses. They also have a great WEB-site which complements the printed materials. Since I live in Montreal, Canada and PR is a British magazine, the subscription is rather expensive and costs much more than that of most North-American photography magazines. However, it is worth every cent.
Practical Photography is helpful in many ways. The magazine in combination with the website www.photoanswers.co.uk offers easy to follow advice in matters of both camera skills and digital darkroom techniques and workflow. Additionally, professional photographers introduce their experiences and insights in specific fields of photography. Finally, gear reviews help to get an idea of what is new and possibly useful on the market.
